The name is synonymous with style, elegance, excellence and discipline. The Chandrabhanu Bharatalaya Academy was established in 1973 and has produced hundreds of dancers. It is the oldest and finest of Indian dance schools in Australia. Here students are not only given a rich heritage dance but are introduced to a legacy of cultural and spiritual studies.
Classes are conducted in an atmosphere of discipline as well as warmth. The Bharatalaya Academy has become a very dynamic and significant cultural and community centre.
A branch of Bharatalaya has now opened in Sydney – the Bharatalaya Academy, Sydney and is run by Apirami Arthieswaran.
All enrolled students are required to attend two classes a week. The year is divided into four terms corresponding to the Victorian and NSW school terms. Fees are paid at the beginning of each term. Special holiday classes, private remedial classes and repertoire classes for the arangetram are arranged separately.
Odissi and Kathak classical dances are also taught to students in the Melbourne school. These are completely different dance systems and students must undergo the fundamentals of the art-forms.
